Week 24

Week: 24
Baby: Kason is about as long as an ear of corn. He has gained about 4 ounces over the past week...which puts him just over a pound. His body is starting to fill out proportionally and will soon start plumping up (along with this momma..haha). His lungs are developing "branches" of the respiratory "tree."
Total weight gain: 10 pounds now!
Sleep: So...sleep...umm...I sleep from about 11-2am, toss around until about 6am, then sleep in until about 8am. I don't know what is causing me to be awake for that four hours in between, but I'm sure it is my body preparing for little one.
Favorite moment of the week: Two things: my 24 week appointment and our anniversary dinner! My appointment went fantastic and I am measuring right where I should be. I also had my glucose test, and passed with flying colors. I was super excited about this! Our 5 year anniversary dinner was this weekend (June 20th) and we celebrated by going to McCloud Mountain Restaurant. It was a fantastic dinner with some special time with my favorite!

Miss anything? I miss my clothes! Haha! There are many things that I can no longer wear and some cute summer clothes that will have to sit until next year! My options are getting more limited these days!
Movement: Kason is still moving quite a bit and it seems to be when I lay down more often. I have felt him having hiccups a few times now as well. That is such a sweet feeling.
Cravings: Nothing new or different. I'm convinced Kason will be half ice cream! =)! I just want milk, yogurt, ice cream, milkshakes, etc. Kyle thinks it's my body craving calcium.
Anything make you queasy or sick? Not eating when I'm hungry or eating too much in one sitting instead of several small meals.
Gender: Boy!! Kason Dale Basham!
Labor signs: None this early!
Symptoms: I have starting having some pretty painful lower back pain. It is common to start having now as all of the ligaments are shifting and loosening. I cannot sit in one position for too long or stand for too long. It reminds me of my lower back pain from the past, and that may contribute to it as well. Having a bad back and being pregnant don't always mix so well.
Mood: Good!
Looking forward to: Totally off topic, but I am looking forward to officially ending grad school! My last final is due July 2nd and I will be completely done! Like for real...completely finished! I'm very excited about this!!
Freak-out moment of the week: No freak-out moments this week!

Thankful for: A healthy little boy that is growing big and strong. I am so grateful to have had such a wonderful pregnancy so far. Kason and I are both doing fantastic and I couldn't ask for a better pregnancy!

Week 23

Week: 23
Baby: Kason is as big as a large mango. He can now feel me moving around. He weighs a little over a pound and is more than 11 inches long. Kason's lungs are developing to prepare for breathing. His inner ears are fully formed, but he can only hear muffled sounds.
Total weight gain: I will find out at my next appt!
Sleep: Sleep is still going well, but I am having some trouble laying on my sides now. When I lay on my side, I lay way over almost on my stomach. This is getting harder to do, so the body pillow has officially become my sleep buddy.
Favorite moment of the week: My favorite moment this week was going to Charlottesville, VA with Kyle. He had a conference up there for work, so I tagged along and we spent the afternoons together. We got to see Monticello, shop at the Downtown Mall, and try some amazing restaurants.

Miss anything? I miss being able to wait longer than five minutes to eat when I get hungry. I get so sick feeling if I don't eat within a certain window. I usually always have snacks with me, but there have been times when I have not...and it's terrible.
Movement: Kason is a wiggly little thing. He is moving a ton now, and Kyle gets to feel him more often. I can feel him flipping around all the time, especially at night. I have also seen him move from outside my shirt a few times now.
Cravings: The lemonade trend is still there, but not quite as strong. Right now, baked potatoes have been on the top of my list and candy. I know...I know...you're not supposed to eat sweets or sugars ever during pregnancy, but let's be honest! It's all about moderation!! =)
Anything make you queasy or sick? The only thing making me sick right now is not eating as soon as I get hungry...which is every 3 hours!
Gender: Boy!! Kason Dale Basham!
Labor signs: None this early!
Symptoms: I got to wear some pretty awesome compression tights on our road trip this past weekend. I am officially not a fan of wearing them at all because they are so tight and when you take them off, your legs feel so weird. I know they are good for Kason and me, and I will continue to wear them...but they are uncomfortable.
Mood: Great...minus the heat! I am not a fan when I am outside!
Looking forward to: My 24 week appointment is coming up and I am excited to see all the changes that have been happening over the past month.
Freak-out moment of the week: The only moment this past week that I got a little concerned was how warm I got at Monticello. Kyle and I had to sit down a few times because we were out in the sun and it was about 88 degrees. In most cases, I would not get as hot and winded...but it was tougher this time. We had to rest in the shade a few times, and Kyle was so patient and kind about it!
Thankful for: Mini-trips to spend with my husband before Kason comes. I know that trips will be different after October, so I am enjoying this one-on-one time with Kyle right now.

22 Weeks! Some Q&A!

Week: 22
Baby: Kason is the size of a spaghetti squash this week. His tiny tooth buds are forming and his lips, eyelids and eyebrows are becoming more distinct. Kason is approximately 11 inches long and about 1 pound.
Total weight gain: I'm not really sure. I will find out at my next appointment, June 18th.
Sleep: Sleep is getting a little more difficult, but only because I am having to get up 4-5 times a night to use the restroom. I feel like I just fall asleep and I am waking up to go again. When I am asleep...I sleep great!
Favorite moment of the week: My favorite moment this week was getting to volunteer at VBS at our church. It was only in the mornings and it was so much fun because I worked in the craft room. I enjoyed not having to teach all day, but getting to paint and glue instead.
Miss anything? This seems funny to say this early and I know I still have about 18 weeks to go, but I miss being able to pick things up off the ground without feeling like I can't breathe! Ha...every time I reach down or have to bend down for a long period of time, I come up gasping for a breath!! Kyle thinks it's hilarious....me not so much! I sound like an old person! =)
Movement: Kason has been very active this week. Whenever I am laying down, he likes to start wiggling around. Kyle has felt him kick several times now since it's becoming almost a nightly thing now.
Cravings: No new cravings, but my meals are having to get more frequent and smaller. If I wait too long or eat too much, I feel so sick. I am finding it best to have the small meals throughout the day and not eat huge 3 meals.
Anything make you queasy or sick? Not these days!
Gender: Boy!! Kason Dale Basham!
Labor signs: None this early!
Symptoms: I feel like Kason is standing right on my bladder and dancing all day. I have never used the restroom this many times in my whole combined...haha! I have to go every hour almost because there is no room for my bladder these days!
Mood: Great!!
Looking forward to: Kyle and I are headed to Charlottesville, VA next week for a conference he is attending. We are excited to get away for a weekend and spend some quality time together since these next few months will just fly by. It's hard to believe we have just 4 months of just us!
Freak-out moment of the week: No freak-outs this week! I was just really tired from VBS and needed more naps than I usually take.
Thankful for: I am thankful for our wonderful church this week, Sevier Heights! I am thankful for the friendships we have made and for the huge emphasis they put on children. I know that Kason will be treated so well even in the short three years we have left here. Kyle and I have been so blessed by the people and the teaching there.

Q & A

So, Kyle and I have been getting a lot of questions about our future plans! Here are some answers to our most common questions:

Are you going to continue teaching?
No, I am not going to continue teaching in Tennessee. We only have three years left of Kyle's residency and no family around. I will be staying at home while we are here and we will reevaluate when we move.

But aren't you getting your Masters?
Yes I am! I will be completely finished the first week in July and will have my Masters in Educational Administration from UT!

So....you're getting your Masters and staying home?
Currently, yes! This has always been part of the plan. Good thing Masters don't expire! =)

When will you use it then?
I am not a homebody...I don't like summers as a teacher. I would like to stay home while Kason is home and then go back into teaching when he goes to school. I am not self-motivated when I am home by myself....just ask Kyle! I will teach wherever we end up for awhile to get reacquainted with the classroom before moving into an administrative position. I am very young to have my administration degree, so I've got time.

These are the most recent questions we have been getting right now! Let me know if you have any other questions and I can get to those next time! I love that you guys are reading this and I love that I will have it to look back on one day!

21 Weeks - Month 6! Baby B has a name!!

Kason Dale Basham will be joining our family in October!!

Week: 21
Baby: Kason is about 10 1/2 inches long, or the length of a carrot. His eyebrows and eyelids are present now.
Total weight gain: As of 2 weeks ago, 4 pounds.
Sleep: Sleep is getting a little more difficult since I am getting bigger. I am waking up too far on my stomach and I am sore because of it. I also get up 3-4 times a night to use the restroom, which I never did before I was pregnant.
Favorite moment of the week: My favorite moment this week was being off of work and at home. I began working on organizing the nursery and I just had a chance to catch up on some sleep after our quick trip home for the gender reveal. I also went to a water park with some of our neighbors this past Friday. It was so much fun to get away for a day and enjoy the beautiful Tennessee weather!
Miss anything? I am missing more and more each day being able to get on the floor and do things without being so winded. Haha! Every time I drop something, I have to stop and think about picking it up because of the lack of room to bend. I know...I know...it will get much worse, but it has already started.
Movement: Kason is beginning to kick more and I am learning his routine slowly, but surely. He likes to kick when I am laying down at night or riding in the car. The kicks are still faint, but they are becoming stronger and stronger. I also think that he had the hiccups a few days ago, but I am not 100% sure on that one.
Cravings: Nothing new right now, just lemonades and cereal. I am not picky on either of those as long as there are options in the house.
Anything make you queasy or sick? The only time I feel like this is if I wait too long to eat. When I get hungry, I have to eat right away. It can be a small snack, but it has to be quickly or I begin to feel queasy.
Gender prediction: It's a boy!!!
Labor signs: None
Symptoms: The only symptom I am still having is the tailbone pain. I cannot sit for long amounts of time in any seat. Kyle suggested I get a donut to make it feel better, but I have not broken down and done this yet. Oh geez!! Pregnancy is so glamorous!
Mood: Great! Just so excited about the summer and the future!
Looking forward to: I am looking forward to finishing up my last 2 classes in grad school over the next few weeks and being off work. It is so nice to sit when I need a break and work when I feel good!
Freak-out moment of the week: The only freak-out I had this week was a busted blood vessel in my left leg. I didn't necessarily freak out...I just didn't like the huge black bruise on my thigh. I wore compression hose home last weekend during the two 11 hour drives, but they only went to my knees. My legs did swell during both trips, so Kyle and I can only assume that one of my blood vessels did end up busting! Boo....
Thankful for: Time to prepare for Baby Kason! I am thankful that I can work on his nursery and enjoy time with Kyle before he comes!
